White Bird Battlefield

White Bird Battlefield preserves the site of the first battle of the Nez Perce Flight of 1877. Visitors can learn about the events of June 17, 1877 through interpretive signs, an overlook, and a self-guided battlefield trail.

Good to Know

No entrance fee or reservation is required for ordinary visits or hiking. Recreational horse use requires a free special-use permit. Trailhead parking is limited. Stay on the marked trail and watch for poison ivy, rattlesnakes, uneven terrain, and steep cliffs. Bring drinking water and approach the battlefield respectfully; the site interprets warfare and loss of life.
