Bellevue offers an easy choice between a town playground and a quieter walk beside the Big Wood River. Hayspur Hatchery and the campground listings widen the options, but they require a separate drive and should not be treated as stops within the downtown park area.

Play in town or follow the river

Memorial Park, on 3rd Street between Cedar and Elm, has a playground, basketball and tennis courts, picnic tables and a Little Free Library. It is a practical choice when children want unstructured play and the adults want a picnic stop. Bring a book to exchange or a ball to extend the visit.

Howard Preserve gives families a different pace: short trails in a protected floodplain alongside the Big Wood River. The city recommends parking on Elm Street and following the road toward the preserve, near Martin Lane off Broadford Road. Keep children close around the river and irrigation diversion, and allow wildlife space.

For field sports, compare O’Donnell Park. Check with the city if you need an organized reservation; a casual visit and exclusive use of a field involve different planning.

A hatchery trip beyond town

Hayspur Fish Hatchery is at 71 Hayspur Lane, reached from Highway 20. Idaho Fish and Game lists free walk-in viewing in designated areas from 8 a.m.–4 p.m. daily. Larger guided groups should call 208-788-2847 first.

The hatchery raises rainbow trout and also maintains Gavers Lagoon, a Family Fishing Water. Decide whether your outing is a short look at the fish-rearing operation or a fishing visit requiring gear and more time. Do not assume fishing rules at the lagoon apply to nearby creeks.

Use the individual campground listing for an overnight plan; a Bellevue mailing address alone is not enough to judge the road, distance or services.
