Explore Jerome

A Jerome-area history day can explore farming and community life or make time for the more reflective experience of Minidoka National Historic Site. These destinations have different locations and purposes, so choose a main stop before adding recreation afterward.

Give Minidoka time and context

Minidoka National Historic Site preserves part of the place where Japanese Americans were incarcerated during World War II. Prepare children for a visit about real families, forced removal and civil rights. Leave time for questions and quiet observation rather than treating the site as a quick attraction to check off.

The visitor center is at 1428 Hunt Road, outside downtown Jerome. Its exhibits and film provide context for walking the grounds. The outdoor visit and visitor-center visit are not interchangeable: when the building is closed, brochures and a passport stamp are available outside, but restrooms are unavailable.

2026 schedule, checked September 8: the National Park Service lists the center open Friday–Sunday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m., through September 27, with ranger tours at 11 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The grounds remain open daily from sunrise to sunset. Recheck the linked conditions page before a fall visit.

Compare the other history and recreation stops

The Jerome County Historical Museum is at 220 1st Avenue East in town. Idaho Farm and Ranch Museum is a separate historical-society destination focused on the Magic Valley’s agricultural past. Use each listing’s address and confirm opening arrangements before planning both; the two museum names do not refer to one entrance.

If your family wants active time instead, compare the recreation district and outdoor pool listings. Check the actual session and seasonal calendar before packing swim gear or assuming drop-in access. A museum visit plus one confirmed recreation session is a more manageable plan than crossing the county for several uncertain stops.
