Pocatello offers several ways to build a family learning day: regional history at Ross Park, natural history on the Idaho State University campus, or the unusual collections at Museum of Clean. Choose the subject your children are most curious about, then leave room for an outdoor break.
Fort Hall Replica and the Bannock County Historical Museum belong to the Ross Park area. They offer a useful pairing for families interested in trading-post history, local communities and the region’s past. Read the separate listings for admission and opening information; being in the same park complex does not make every attraction available on the same schedule.
Lower Ross Park can provide a change of pace around a museum visit. Use the destination’s own parking directions: the replica is on the upper level of Ross Park, so a general park pin may not take you to the entrance you want.
Temporary closure, checked September 8, 2026: Idaho State University’s visitor page says the Idaho Museum of Natural History gallery is closed September 7–25 for updates. It advertises a September 26 reopening event. Confirm the current notice before making a special trip, especially if this museum is your main reason for visiting Pocatello.
For a later visit, use the museum’s designated complimentary parking spaces in campus lot G01 rather than assuming all university parking is visitor parking. The gallery is at 698 East Dillon Street, and its visitor page explains the turn into the museum spaces.
Museum of Clean is another indoor option to investigate while the gallery is closed. If your family would rather hike, plan Blackrock Canyon separately from the museum circuit, using its trail access and conditions to decide whether it fits the time you have.
