1. Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic
When: Friday–Sunday, September 4–6
Where: Ann Morrison Park, Boise
Admission: Free
Watch colorful balloons fill the sky during the final three days of this Boise tradition. Friday includes a morning launch and the evening Nite Glow Spectacular, while Saturday features the Family Morning Launch and Sunday closes with the Great Launch. Arrive early for morning events and remember that launches depend on safe weather.

2. Boise Comic Arts Festival XIV
When: Saturday, September 5, 10 a.m.–6 p.m.; Sunday, September 6, noon–5 p.m.
Where: Boise Centre, Boise
Admission: Free; no registration required
Families can explore Artists’ Alley, cosplay, performances, panels and creative workshops during this two-day celebration of comics and graphic storytelling. The festival offers activities for curious young artists as well as longtime comic fans.

3. Meat & Tater BBQ Fest
When: Saturday, September 5, 10 a.m.–4 p.m.
Where: Julius M. Kleiner Memorial Park, Meridian
Admission: Free
This community festival combines a sanctioned barbecue competition with a car show, food, music and family fun. Proceeds support local Meridian Lions Club programs. Event parking is available at the park on a first-come basis; organizers state that event parking is not allowed at The Village.

4. Twin Falls County Fair
When: Wednesday–Monday, September 2–7
Where: Twin Falls County Fairgrounds, Filer
Admission: Admission and attraction prices vary
Spend part of the long weekend with carnival rides, livestock exhibits, a petting zoo, pig races, model railroads, food booths and live entertainment. The Magic Valley Stampede rodeo runs Thursday through Saturday, and Monday includes carnival specials and an antique tractor pull.

5. Eastern Idaho State Fair
When: Friday, September 4–Saturday, September 12
Where: Eastern Idaho State Fairgrounds, Blackfoot
Admission: Admission and attraction prices vary
The Eastern Idaho State Fair opens Friday with carnival rides, livestock, fair food, exhibits and entertainment for families. Because the fair continues beyond Labor Day weekend, it also gives families flexibility if their holiday schedule is already full.

6. Wagon Days
When: Wednesday–Saturday, September 2–5; main family activities Saturday
Where: Ketchum
Admission: Check individual activities
Ketchum celebrates Idaho’s mining and pioneer history with children’s and cultural activities, the Big Hitch Parade and a street party. Saturday’s parade features historic wagons, carriages and stagecoaches—including the Lewis Ore Wagons pulled by a large team of draft horses.

7. St. Maries Paul Bunyan Days
When: Friday–Monday, September 4–7
Where: St. Maries
Admission: Park admission and parking are free; some activities require tickets
This four-day celebration of the area’s logging heritage includes a carnival, vendors, children’s events, entertainment, logging competitions, fireworks, a Labor Day parade and a car show. The demolition derby is separately ticketed, and organizers ask visitors to leave pets at home.

8. Labor Day at the Warhawk Air Museum
When: Monday, September 7, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
Where: Warhawk Air Museum, Nampa
Admission: $5 general admission
The museum is opening on a Monday especially for Labor Day and offering discounted admission. Families can explore aircraft, military vehicles, uniforms, photographs and exhibits connecting aviation history with the experiences of veterans and their families.
