Camel’s Back Reserve sits behind Camel’s Back Park in Boise’s North End and connects with the wider Hulls Gulch trail area. Choose a route before setting out: a walk toward the ponds and a climb to the hilltop are quite different family outings.
Hill climb or gentler walk?
The popular hill viewpoint involves a steep grade and stairs. Ridge to Rivers highlights the Ponds Loop as a short walk for small children, with birdwatching opportunities, while the Grove offers trees and shade compared with the more exposed foothills.
Access and trail rules
Camel’s Back Reserve trails are pedestrian-only, and dogs must be leashed. Do not assume the cycling rules for neighboring trails apply inside the reserve. Stay on designated routes to protect the hillside and native plants.
The wider area has parking at 9th Street, the Grove, and Hulls Gulch. Ridge to Rivers identifies a restroom at Hulls Gulch Trailhead; plan facilities around your actual starting point. Check the current trail-condition report before leaving and avoid muddy routes.
