The John C. Pointner Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary Trail south of Coeur d’Alene protects wetland and wildlife habitat near Cougar Bay. Families can hike through a quiet natural area, watch migratory birds and waterfowl, and reach a viewing platform with filtered views of Lake Coeur d’Alene and the city.

Good to Know
The BLM-managed sanctuary is a non-fee site. The trailhead is approximately four miles south of Coeur d’Alene on the east side of U.S. Highway 95. Stay on designated trails to protect sensitive wetland habitat.
