💡 Good to Know
- The center may close when staff are in the field. Call 208-467-9278 before a special trip; refuge grounds are open during daylight.
- Lake Lowell is under a Health Alert: Idaho DEQ reports toxins confirmed in an October 2, 2026 field test. The alert identifies a high risk for pets and livestock and possible illness in people, especially small children. Check current DEQ notices before visiting and avoid water that may contain a harmful bloom.
- Keep dogs on a leash no longer than six feet.
- Bring trail water: the refuge has no potable water along its trails. A bottle-filling station is inside the visitor center during opening hours.
