Niagara Springs Fish Hatchery

Niagara Springs Fish Hatchery raises steelhead and Snake River white sturgeon in the canyon about 10 miles south of Wendell. Idaho Power owns the facility and Idaho Fish and Game operates it. The visitor center introduces the work behind raising fish for Idaho waters.

Temporary hatchery and parking closure

Checked September 8, 2026: Idaho Power reports that the hatchery, including its parking area, is closed until September 18 for building maintenance. Visitors to Niagara Springs Creek must approach from the east side of the creek, opposite the hatchery. Do not assume the normal hatchery entrance or parking is available during this period.

Planning a hatchery visit

Outside temporary closures, Idaho Fish and Game lists public access to designated areas daily from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with free admission. Large-group guided tours require an appointment; call 208-536-2283 to arrange one or confirm reopening.

The address is 2131 Niagara Springs Road. From Interstate 84 exit 157, follow signs toward Niagara Springs State Park into the canyon, then watch for the separate hatchery entrance. A state-park outing and a hatchery tour have different access arrangements, so check both if planning to combine them.
