Good to Know
- Use the official trail map and ask park staff about the southern parking area and current route conditions. The map is dated 2013 and remains linked by the park.
- The short distance does not establish an easy grade or an accessible surface. Confirm obstacles, slope and stroller or wheelchair suitability before setting out.
- A motor vehicle entrance fee or valid park pass applies. Check the current amount and pass coverage before arrival.
- The listed address and map point identify Winchester Lake State Park, not an exact Discovery Trail entrance. Contact the park at 208-924-7563 for the current trailhead approach.
Current park notices
The park’s October 7, 2026 notice reports elevated cyanobacteria toxins in lake water. People and animals should stay out of affected water and should not drink it. Check the current park notice before visiting.
For the 2026–27 winter season, Bitterroot and Camas campground loops, the shower house and fish-cleaning station closed October 1. These closures do not establish the condition of the Discovery Nature Trail or its nearby restrooms.
