Tetonia offers two different kinds of family stops: a town park where children can play without a long route, and access to the much longer Ashton–Tetonia rail trail. Decide which fits your day before unloading bikes or packing for a walk.
Ruby Carson Memorial Park is the place to start for playground time and a picnic. The city identifies a pavilion and fire pit among its facilities; contact City Hall about rentals or planned gatherings rather than assuming a group space is reserved for you. Pack a ball or simple lawn activity if your children need a break from the car.
The Ashton–Tetonia Trail runs 29.6 miles between its endpoints. A family visit can be a short out-and-back instead of the entire route. Choose the turnaround and parking location first, allow time for the return, and carry water. Trestles and views of the Teton Range are part of the trail experience, but their distance from your chosen entrance matters.
Access check, September 8, 2026: Idaho Parks and Recreation’s official page still displays a paving notice that includes the Tetonia parking area and the segment toward Highway 33. The notice contains earlier projected reopening dates, so it does not establish which sections have reopened today. Call the park at 208-652-7520 before planning a ride from Tetonia, and follow posted barricades.
The Tetonia Ice Rink is a separate winter option. Confirm that skating is operating before bringing equipment; a rink listing does not mean ice is available throughout the year.
